About the event

Special Note: This event is offered on a Pay What You Can model. We invite you to choose the ticket price that best reflects your current circumstances. Every contribution is valued and helps sustain a community where everyone can participate.

Overview: There has been a growing demand from clients to work with therapists who match their identity. However, the supply of culturally competent therapists has not yet met the growing demand. Too often, our graduate school training relies on quick heuristics, generalizations, or cultural stereotypes that limit our depth of understanding and our ability to engage with clients from diverse backgrounds. For therapists with nondominant identities, this has often led to reliance on one’s own experience, which provides only a partial view of the diversity within their broad, diverse identity groups.

Every therapy session is a cross-cultural experience, and every therapist is working across identity groups.
